Recycation of plastic needs support. Eurotools Is part of the soluting

The decline in Slovakia’s plastic packaging recycling rate highlights the need for cooperation between consumers, manufacturers and waste processors. Eurotools, s. r. o., supports these efforts by supplying accessories and spare parts for recycling lines.

Recycation of plastic needs support. Eurotools Is part of the soluting

According to Eurostat figures reported by Odpady-portal.sk, Slovakia’s plastic packaging recycling rate reached 48.6% in 2024, down from 54.1% in 2023—a decrease of 5.5 percentage points. Although Slovakia remained above the European Union average of 42.4%, the results highlight the need for further improvement.

The indicator covers plastic packaging waste across the entire economy, not just households. A lower recycling rate does not necessarily mean that the quantity recycled in tonnes also fell. Statements from producer responsibility organisations ENVI-PAK and NATUR-PACK identify several ongoing challenges, including the quality of collected materials, further sorting, processing capacity and demand for secondary raw materials. Without a detailed analysis, the decline cannot be attributed to a single cause.

Why Does Plastic Recycling Matter?

Recycling turns used plastic into secondary raw material that can return to production. This helps reduce demand for virgin resources and the amount of waste sent for final disposal. When managed effectively, recycling can also contribute to energy savings and lower emissions compared with producing plastics from virgin materials.

Recycling delivers the greatest benefits when combined with waste prevention and product reuse. Every unnecessary package avoided and every plastic item correctly sorted is a step towards more responsible resource use.

Raising Awareness Through Clear, Practical Examples

People are more likely to participate in waste sorting when they understand both the rules and the results. Municipalities, schools and businesses can help through practical initiatives:

  • Explain local sorting rules using simple instructions and illustrations placed near collection bins.
  • Show how waste becomes a new product through videos, facility visits and examples of products made from recycled materials.
  • Engage children and adults in practical educational activities at schools, in communities and in the workplace.
  • Emphasise the importance of correct sorting, as contamination and incorrectly sorted items make further processing more difficult.

Eurotools Supports the Technology Behind Recycling

Turning sorted plastic into a usable raw material also depends on technology and reliable equipment operation. Regular maintenance and timely replacement of worn parts help keep recycling lines running and reduce downtime.
